ALGIERS- The Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA) and the Movement of French Enterprises (MEDEF) are set to convene in Paris for a working session focused on economic cooperation. This meeting, the first of the year, aims to establish contact between Kamel Moula, President of CREA, and the newly elected MEDEF President, Patrick Martin, to finalize the implementation conditions of the Memorandum of Understanding.
The primary resolution is expected to officially establish the Algerian-French Business Council (CAAF) between the two parties and define collaborative work modalities to make it operational, as outlined in a statement by CREA on Sunday.
The business organization emphasized leveraging the new investment code to encourage coproduction partnerships and joint ventures among the members of both patronal organizations. Priority sectors for collaboration in 2024 include agriculture, agro-food, energy, and digitalization, with the objective of developing common approaches.
The February 5, 2024 meeting will result in the creation of a thematic roadmap and the identification of working groups to implement it. Throughout the year, these groups will meet alternately in Paris and Algiers to swiftly realize the set objectives. Additionally, sector-specific missions will be organized, involving business leaders visiting production units in both countries to enhance understanding of each other’s industrial and agricultural capacities.
A strategic committee, comprised of the co-Presidents Abdelouahed Kerrar for the Algerian side and Yannick Morillon for the French side, along with two other business leaders, will oversee the progress according to the set agenda. This operational approach aims to transform the CAAF into a tangible tool for strengthening economic ties between the two organizations.
