Economic Dynamism in Boumerdès: Minister Sifi Ghrieb Awards Operating Licenses to Investors

Algiers, Algeria | February 11th, 2025 — In a strategic move to bolster economic growth and investment opportunities, Minister of Industry, Sifi Ghrieb, conducted a working visit to Boumerdès, where he oversaw the awarding of operating licenses to several investors. This initiative is part of the Algerian government’s ongoing efforts to eliminate barriers hindering stalled investment projects, fostering a climate of economic resurgence in the region.

During the visit, Minister Ghrieb underscored the accelerated efforts in lifting bureaucratic constraints that have long impeded industrial and entrepreneurial initiatives. He commended Boumerdès for its dynamic economic movement, highlighting that the province currently registers 14 enterprises per 1,000 inhabitants. However, he emphasized the necessity of elevating this figure to match the national average of 29 enterprises per 1,000 inhabitants, aligning with Algeria’s broader industrialization goals.

The Minister affirmed that the commissioning of newly operational industrial units will inject fresh momentum into the province’s economy, reinforcing the Algerian state’s unwavering commitment—under the directives of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune—to diversify the national economy and enhance the investment ecosystem.

As part of the visit, a comprehensive presentation was delivered on Boumerdès’ industrial sector, which encompasses 14,943 active enterprises. These businesses predominantly operate within the service, industrial, and public works sectors, collectively generating approximately 92,000 job opportunities. Notably, the province hosts 2,812 enterprises dedicated to core industries, including agri-food production, iron and steel manufacturing, as well as paper and wood processing.

Regarding industrial land allocation, Boumerdès boasts a total of 556 hectares designated for industrial activity, comprising one fully developed industrial zone and 31 business activity zones. In an effort to further decentralize and enhance industrial accessibility, three additional micro-industrial zones have been established, covering an area of 4.5 hectares.

Minister Ghrieb concluded his visit by reiterating the government’s steadfast commitment to creating a favorable business environment. He urged local authorities and stakeholders to intensify efforts to facilitate investment projects and ensure a sustainable trajectory of industrial expansion in Boumerdès.
