Education: creation of “the arts branche” in secondary education from next year

The Ministry of National Education will create “the arts branche” in the general and technological secondary education stage, starting next school year 2022-2023.

According to the content of Ministerial Order No. 37 of April 14, 2022, which sets the streams of general and technological secondary education, the creation of this stream aims to “develop and supervise the artistic talents of students, to make them acquire a culture that will allow them to understand the cultural, historical and aesthetic dimensions of artistic creations, while promoting the artistic dimension and giving it a place in the Algerian educational system”.

This order also contains the regulatory provisions for this stream, which will be opened at the start of the 2nd year of general and technological secondary education. The course is made up of a common core arts and a common core sciences and technologies, provided that the duration of studies in this course is two years, especially since it is characterized by four choices (music, arts plastics, theater and audio-visual).

The pupil oriented towards this branche studies, according to the ministerial decree, “distinguished teaching subjects in the artistic field, each of them is accompanied by a coefficient and an hourly volume which concretizes their distinction, in addition common teaching subjects with the courses of the 2nd year. This school course will be sanctioned by a baccalaureate of secondary education in one of the four choices”.

In this context, the Ministry of National Education has started the organization of the 1st week of the media and open doors on educational and professional orientation, in the period which extends from the 18th to the 28th of the current month to level of CEMs, high schools and educational and vocational guidance centres.
