Efforts to Alleviate Ramadan Burdens: CREA, Zitouni Announce Price Reduction Initiative for 60 Products

ALGIERS- In a concerted effort to alleviate financial strains on households during Ramadan, public authorities and the business community continue to collaborate, aiming to enhance consumer purchasing power. As part of an initiative launched by the Ministry of Commerce, the Algerian Council for Economic Renewal (CREA) unveiled a new measure to reduce prices for 60 products, including various agri-food items, household goods, and appliances.
At the invitation of CREA, Mr. Zitouni participated in a press conference themed “Economically Patriotic, Socially Supportive.” During his address, in the presence of the Minister of Communication, Mohamed Laagab, Zitouni commended the proactive stance of business leaders who have embraced the price reduction initiative for Ramadan, deeming it essential for preserving Algerians’ purchasing power.
He underscored the alignment of this initiative with President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s commitment, particularly emphasizing the imperative to safeguard citizens’ purchasing power, thus highlighting CREA’s pivotal role in reinforcing the country’s economic and social stability.
Zitouni praised the “sincere commitment of Algerian producers who have announced price reductions for over 60 products, including agri-food items, household appliances, and detergents, throughout the month of Ramadan.”
Similarly, the Minister of Commerce emphasized the paramount importance of this initiative in alleviating the burden on citizens during the holy month, citing their positive contribution as a reflection of their dedication to the nation and tireless efforts toward building a robust and prosperous economy.
However, the minister stressed that “preserving purchasing power is not the sole objective of this initiative, even though it has been shunned by two members of the executive; it also aims to highlight the human, ethical, and fraternal dimensions.” He added, “There are still some individuals who have not yet learned their lesson, and your initiative will serve to halt them.”
Furthermore, the initiative was lauded for enhancing confidence in products showcased in domestic and international markets by Algerian industry leaders, deemed essential for sustainable economic development. The minister highlighted the opening of 477 neighborhood markets during Ramadan, with 8,402 economic operators participating, urging additional operators to join the initiative. He also encouraged producers to actively engage in neighborhood markets, offering Algerian consumers the opportunity to purchase directly from producers and thus curb opportunists and intermediaries.
In conclusion, the Minister emphasized that the collaborative approach advocated by the Ministry of Commerce represents a fundamental pillar of the ministry’s strategy, viewed as crucial for regulating the domestic market and stimulating economic growth. He reiterated the conviction that cooperation between the government, the private sector, and professional organizations is the most effective and sustainable path to achieve economic objectives.
