For the first time, and at Algeria’s insistence, the Council officially acknowledged the indispensable role of Africa’s security mechanisms in combating instability.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, designated as the continent’s spokesperson on counterterrorism, has been entrusted with spearheading Africa’s comprehensive security agenda. During the 11th High-Level Seminar on Peace and Security in Africa, held in Oran in December 2024, President Tebboune reaffirmed Algeria’s unwavering commitment to a unified and sovereign Africa. He pledged that Algeria would always stand as a unifier, not a divider; a source of unwavering support, not disappointment; and a voice that resonates powerfully in defense of Africa’s collective aspirations.
African Solutions to African Problems: A Strategic Imperative
In a rapidly shifting geopolitical climate marked by mounting tensions and crises, Algeria consistently champions the doctrine of “African solutions to African problems.” This principle remains a cornerstone of Algeria’s foreign policy, aimed at shielding the continent from external manipulation and ensuring that Africa’s challenges are met with indigenous, self-driven strategies. Algeria continues to call upon African nations to reject foreign meddling and instead strengthen their collective ability to address regional conflicts and economic vulnerabilities.

Algeria’s deep-rooted advocacy for African liberation and justice is further exemplified in its ongoing pursuit of historical redress. As the nation commemorates National Martyrs’ Day this month, it solemnly recalls the atrocities inflicted upon its people, particularly the brutal French colonial massacres and the devastating nuclear explosions in the Algerian Sahara.
El Djeïch stresses that these heinous crimes will remain an indelible stain on colonial France’s legacy, serving as a stark reminder of the long and painful struggle for self-determination that unites Algeria with its African brethren. This historical consciousness fuels Algeria’s determination to prevent any form of neo-colonial subjugation on the continent.
