Algiers, Algeria | April 10th, 2025 — In its latest edition, El Djeïch, the official magazine of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP), delivers a resolute and unapologetic message: Algeria’s sovereignty is non-negotiable, and its armed forces stand as an impregnable bulwark against any threat—internal or external.
Under the powerful headline “Power and Deterrence,” the editorial encapsulates the unwavering posture of the Algerian military establishment. In a geopolitical context marked by volatility, insecurity, and hybrid threats along national borders, El Djeïch affirms the dual responsibility of the ANP: safeguarding national security while propelling Algeria toward sustainable development and a brighter future.
“Security and development are two inseparable pillars,” states the editorialist, emphasizing that the ANP’s pivotal role extends beyond military duties to supporting Algeria’s economic and social renaissance.
The editorial issues a stern reminder of the regional instability that surrounds Algeria, underscoring the necessity of unwavering vigilance and strategic preparedness. “In the face of accelerating changes in our sub-region and persistent threats along our borders, our forces are entrusted with the historic responsibility to defend territorial integrity, combat terrorism, and dismantle transnational crime networks,” it reads.
Reinforcing this doctrine, Army General Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the ANP and Minister Delegate to the Minister of National Defence, is quoted during his visit to the 1st Military Region in September 2024. In his address, he underscored the urgency of fortifying military readiness:
“These regional shifts demand greater prudence, intensified surveillance, and adaptive strategic measures aligned with our operational objectives—be it combat readiness, enhanced border security, or the dismantling of trafficking and criminal networks,” declared the General.
He further reaffirmed the ANP’s enduring commitment:
“We reiterate our pledge to continue working with selfless devotion to uphold national stability, strengthen our army’s operational capabilities, and confront all subversive and hostile schemes.”
Beyond military preparedness, the editorial illustrates Algeria’s parallel momentum on the development front. Under the leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the country is resolutely translating its national vision into tangible progress. Major development programs have been launched, aimed at empowering citizens, particularly the youth, whom the President describes as the “foundation and jewel of the Nation.”
The editorial also pays solemn tribute to the victims of colonial-era landmines, highlighting the International Day for Mine Awareness. It denounces the heinous legacy of over 10 million mines planted along Algeria’s eastern and western borders by French colonial forces—devices that have claimed tens of thousands of Algerian lives.
