ALGIERS-November 21, 2023 | Feeling embarrassed by the Moroccans’ protests against normalization, the regime has decided to tighten its grip on demonstrations supporting Palestine, especially those featuring strong slogans against the regime and condemning its failure to expel the Zionist ambassador while retaining Morocco’s ambassador to the Zionist entity.

Outraged Moroccans called for boycotting Zionist products flooding the Moroccan market, denouncing Zionist crimes and urging Morocco to cease supporting the war on Gaza.

Security forces confronted protesters in the city of Meknès, attempting to prevent them from gathering in public spaces to express their opinions with banners reading “The people want to bring down normalization” and “Shame, shame, you sold Al-Aqsa for dollars.”

The peaceful demonstration organized by the Moroccan Front to Support Palestine and Oppose Normalization turned into a popular march, met with violence, beatings, and the arrest of protesters by the regime’s security apparatus.

Activists from the Moroccan Front confirmed that the demonstration was intended to proceed peacefully, conveying strong messages denouncing Zionist crimes and calling for a boycott of anyone supporting such atrocities.

Despite the repression and attempts to suppress dissent, isolated peaceful citizens persisted in the public space until all those arrested were released.

The Front concluded the event with a statement expressing its rejection and condemnation of such catastrophic practices by the security apparatus towards citizens, including children and women. They called on citizens to boycott products from companies supporting the Zionist entity, support Gaza with all available means, and urged Moroccans to realize the dangers of normalizing ties with the occupying entity.

During a demonstration in Casablanca a week ago, Moroccan protesters demanded the regime expel King Mohammed VI’s advisor Andre Azoulay, raising the slogan “Shame, shame, the Zionist is an advisor.”

Azoulay’s presence in the top echelons of decision-making within the regime has become undesirable to Moroccans, representing a stigma for the Moroccan people who support the Palestinian cause.

Social media activists launched a campaign against Azoulay, affirming him as the de facto ruler in Morocco and calling for his removal.

82-year-old Andre Azoulay has been an advisor to King Hassan II, continuing in his role since Mohammed VI ascended the throne in 1999. Last July, the head of the Zionist entity awarded Andre Azoulay the “Medal of Honor,” the highest civilian award given by the Zionist president. Azoulay received the medal for his “efforts” in pushing the regime to sign normalization agreements and accepting the conditions of the Zionist entity, executing its nefarious plans in Morocco.
