End of MINUSMA Mandate in Mali: Algeria’s Message to the UN and Malians

ALGIERS- On the official conclusion of the MINUSMA mandate in Mali, Algeria, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has conveyed a message to the UN and the people of Mali, particularly those involved in the conflict.
“As MINUSMA officially marks the end of its mandate this December, Algeria wishes to express its gratitude to it, as well as to the UN and its Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, for the valuable contribution and support they provided in implementing the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali resulting from the Algiers process and for promoting peace and stability in this brotherly and neighboring country,” stated the ministry’s press release.
Seizing this opportunity, the statement continues, Algeria “reiterates its firm conviction that the said Agreement remains the appropriate framework for resolving the crisis in Mali and for the peaceful preservation of Mali’s territorial integrity, sovereignty, and national unity.”
Algeria Appeals to Malian Parties
In its message to the people of Mali, Algeria called on all parties “to renew their commitment to this collective work of peace and reconciliation to meet the legitimate aspirations of all components of the brotherly Malian people for lasting peace and stability.”
The ministry recalls that Mali’s history is marked by lessons that unequivocally confirm that the challenges threatening its stability, unity, and integrity can only be addressed through dialogue, agreement, and reconciliation.
The ministry emphasizes that these are precisely the three virtues that constitute the essence of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Mali resulting from the Algiers process.
