Energy Cooperation: Algeria Strengthens Ties with Oman, Trinidad and Tobago, and Bolivia

ALGIERS- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, hosted the Minister of Energy and Mines of the Sultanate of Oman, Salem al-Aoufi, at the ministry’s headquarters on Sunday, in the presence of the Omani Ambassador to Algeria and Sonatrach’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi. During the meeting, the Omani Minister of Energy and Mines commended the success of the 7th GECF Summit and congratulated Algeria for its efforts in making the event a success.

The discussions also encompassed the current state of cooperative relations between the two countries, described as fraternal and excellent, particularly in the energy and mining sectors. Both parties explored avenues to strengthen these ties, focusing on cooperation and investment opportunities in the oil and gas industry, as well as in exploration, development, and petrochemicals. The goal is to enhance collaboration between Sonatrach and Omani companies.

Additionally, discussions centered on reinforcing cooperation and partnership in the field of renewable energy, hydrogen development, and training.

Furthermore, the Minister of Energy and Energy Industries of Trinidad and Tobago, Stuart Young, praised Algeria for the successful hosting of the 7th GECF Summit. He conveyed his congratulations during a meeting with Minister Mohamed Arkab at the ministry’s headquarters. Young lauded Algeria and the Minister of Energy and Mines for the well-organized summit and its positive outcomes for the global gas industry.

During this meeting, discussions also covered the status of cooperation between Algeria and Trinidad and Tobago in the hydrocarbon sector. Both parties emphasized the need to strengthen partnership and investment by intensifying exchanges between energy sector experts from both countries, as well as sharing experiences and expertise.

Additionally, on the sidelines of the 7th GECF Summit, Minister Mohamed Arkab welcomed his Bolivian counterpart, Franklin Molina Ortiz, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of cooperation in the oil and gas sector between the two countries.

The signing ceremony took place at the Abdelatif-Rahal International Conference Center in the presence of Sonatrach’s CEO and several ministry officials. Concurrently, Sonatrach and the Bolivian oil company YPFB signed an MoU, facilitating partnership opportunities and expertise exchange in research and exploration. The MoU also explores the possibility for Sonatrach to access the Bolivian market.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around cooperation opportunities between Algeria and Bolivia in the energy sector, including oil, gas, and electricity. Both parties agreed to organize meetings between experts from both countries to explore partnership and investment avenues further.
