Energy Minister Arkab Receives Turkish Delegation: Turkey Committed to Strengthening Presence in Algeria

Algiers, February 13, 2024- The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received a Turkish parliamentary delegation led by the President of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Grand National Assembly of the Republic of Turkey, Mr. Fuat Oktay, who is on an official visit to Algeria.
According to a statement from the ministry, the two parties discussed, among other things, the prospects for strengthening relations between the two countries, as well as the significant achievements and current and future projects, particularly since the 11th Algeria-Turkey Joint Commission and the Business Forum on Energy and Mines held in Algiers in 2021.
On this occasion, both parties praised the significant partnership between Algerian companies in the sector such as Sonatrach, Sonelgaz, and Sonaram, and Turkish companies Potash, Renaissance, Tosyali, and Ozmert, in the fields of gas marketing, petrochemicals, as well as the exploitation and processing of iron ore from the Gara Jbilat and Ounza mines.
Hydrocarbons: Discussion on Opportunities for Partnerships Abroad
Seeking to expand partnerships, the two parties also discussed “investment and partnership opportunities between companies from both countries in the energy sector in general and in the hydrocarbons sector in Algeria and abroad, particularly in Africa,” the statement added.
The discussions also revolved around the exchange of expertise, investment, and partnership in the mining sector, focusing on geological research, exploration, exploitation, and production of mineral resources in Algeria.
In this context, Arkab highlighted the new investment law in Algeria, which includes numerous facilities and incentives for foreign traders, while Mr. Fuat Oktay reiterated Turkey’s commitment to strengthening its presence in Algeria.
According to the latter, Turkish companies have shown great interest in creating mutually beneficial investment projects and partnerships with Algerian enterprises, with the transfer of experiences and training in many areas particularly relevant to the energy and mining sectors.
