Energy Minister receives Ambassador Li Jian: China pledges to strengthen presence in Algeria

ALGIERS– The Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab, received, Sunday, at the headquarters of the ministry, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China in Algeria, LI Jian. According to a press release from the ministry, the discussions focused on the progress of mining projects in partnership with Chinese companies.
The projects include the Gara Djebilet iron deposit development project and the Integrated Phosphate Project (PPI). On the occasion, Mohamed Arkab recalled Algeria’s availability to develop and deepen bilateral cooperation in the field of energy, particularly new and renewable energies, the statement added.
The talks between the two parties focused on the development and strengthening of cooperation and partnership relations between the two countries in the field of hydrocarbons (upstream and downstream), new technologies, research and development, according to the same source.
Also, the two parties welcomed the traditional and historical relations maintained between the two countries, particularly in the field of energy and mining. The Chinese diplomat, on his part, expressed his satisfaction with the quality of the historical relations between the companies of the two countries, while reaffirming the commitment of the Chinese side to strengthen its presence in Algeria.
Last week, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Li Jianthe, was received by Minister of Public Works, Hydraulics and Basic Infrastructure, Lakhdar Rekhroukh, with whom he discussed the possibilities of bilateral cooperation in the field of public works, hydraulics and basic infrastructure.
Algeria and China have traditionally strong relations, celebrating the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2018. The bilateral cooperation between both countries in various fields has stood the test of time and has shown a strong momentum for further growth.
China and Algeria have all along offered mutual sympathy, enjoyed mutual understanding and supported each other.
