ALGIERS- In a demonstration of continued interest in Algerian hydrocarbons and renewable energy prospects, Rachid Hachichi, the CEO of Sonatrach, held discussions on December 13 with Catherine MacGregor, the General Director of the French energy group Engie. The meeting, attended by senior executives from both companies, aimed to strengthen their partnership in the gas sector and explore opportunities for collaboration in the field of renewable energies.
The discussions encompassed the existing partnership in the gas sector, highlighting its strategic importance for both parties. Additionally, they delved into the potential for expanding cooperation into the realm of renewable energies, aligning with the global shift towards sustainable and eco-friendly energy solutions.
Catherine MacGregor’s visit builds upon previous engagements between Engie and Algerian energy authorities. In March of this year, she visited Algeria and held discussions with the Minister of Energy and Mines, Mohamed Arkab. During that visit, discussions revolved around the potential for future investments, particularly in the exportation of green electricity and renewable energies.
This latest meeting further solidifies the collaborative efforts between Engie and Algerian energy entities, emphasizing the importance of fostering sustainable energy practices and exploring avenues for mutual growth. The engagement comes at a crucial time when Algeria is positioning itself in the international energy market, leveraging its recent legislative changes and substantial investments in gas exploration and production.
As the partnership between Sonatrach and Engie evolves, the potential for advancements in both traditional and renewable energy sectors becomes increasingly promising, contributing to Algeria’s broader strategy of economic diversification and sustainable development.
