Algiers, Algeria | September 10th, 2024 In a dynamic push towards innovation in the energy sector, forty Algerian startups presented their cutting-edge projects to Sonatrach on Tuesday, marking a significant opportunity for collaboration with the national energy giant. The event, held at Sonatrach’s headquarters in Algiers, brought together the company’s CEO, Rachid Hachichi, alongside senior executives and representatives from various subsidiaries of the group.

During the presentations, the startups showcased a wide array of innovative solutions, spanning fields such as energy efficiency, petroleum services, hydrocarbon production technologies, artificial intelligence applied to oil industries, solar energy system maintenance, waste treatment and valorization in the energy domain, seawater desalination technologies, and wastewater treatment solutions.

Rachid Hachichi emphasized Sonatrach’s keen interest in these innovations, reaffirming the company’s commitment to integrating national expertise into its operations. “Sonatrach is deeply convinced of the importance of national integration and the exceptional talent that exists within our country,” he remarked, expressing the group’s aspiration for Algerian startups to become key suppliers of technological solutions.

Hachichi further articulated his vision for a long-term partnership between Sonatrach and the country’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. “Our ambition is to strengthen ties with you and support your entrepreneurial journey. We aim not only to be your partner but also to accelerate your progress and prosperity,” he told the participating startups.

The CEO praised the quality of the solutions presented, noting that “Sonatrach encourages any national product that aligns with the standards of its activities, which will receive priority consideration.” He also highlighted the company’s ongoing efforts to adapt its procurement and contracting procedures to promote local content, in line with government directives aimed at fostering national innovation.

Throughout the event, bilateral meetings were organized between the startups and Sonatrach representatives, providing a platform for exchanging ideas and exploring potential business and partnership opportunities.

In interviews with APS, representatives from the startups expressed their enthusiasm for the event, calling it a significant opportunity to collaborate with one of Algeria’s largest companies.
