Algiers, Algeria | October 7th, 2024 — In a significant advancement for regional transportation, the  National Railway Transport Company (SNTF) has announced the official launch of a new train service linking Algeria and Tunisia, set to enhance travel options and facilitate cross-border connectivity. In a detailed communiqué released on October 7, 2024, the SNTF outlined the operational schedules, fare structures, and necessary customs procedures associated with this much-anticipated service.

Schedule and Journey Details

The train service from Annaba to Tunis will operate three days a week—on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays—departing promptly at 9:00 AM and arriving in Tunis at 6:27 PM. This route will make several critical stops along the way, including Souk Ahras, Ghardimaou, Jendouba, and Béja, thereby allowing passengers to experience a seamless transition across the border while enjoying the scenic landscapes of both nations.

Conversely, trains departing from Tunis will run on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, with a scheduled departure at 8:25 AM, ensuring a timely arrival in Annaba by 6:20 PM. This regularity in scheduling is expected to meet the needs of both leisure and business travelers seeking to traverse this vital corridor.

Customs Procedures

To facilitate smooth passage across borders, customs checks will be conducted at specific points: the station in Souk Ahras for Algerian authorities and Ghardimaou for Tunisian counterparts. This streamlined process aims to minimize delays and enhance the overall travel experience, reflecting the commitment of both nations to fostering easier cross-border movement.

Fare Structure

The SNTF has also released a competitive fare structure, designed to accommodate a broad spectrum of passengers. Ticket prices are set at 1,900 dinars for first-class accommodations and 1,640 dinars for second-class. For those planning round trips, fares are priced at 3,485 dinars for first class and 3,040 dinars for second class. Notably, the SNTF recognizes the importance of accessibility, offering complimentary travel for children under the age of four and a 50% discount for those aged four to twelve, thereby encouraging family travel.

A Commitment to Modernization

This new service coincides with the SNTF’s ongoing modernization efforts aimed at enhancing passenger comfort and travel efficiency. The initiative not only strengthens transport links between Algeria and Tunisia but also represents a broader commitment to fostering regional integration and collaboration.
