Algiers, Algeria | August 12th, 2024 — Algerian Minister Tayeb Zitouni welcomed, on Monday, August 12, 2024, at the Ministry of Trade and Export Promotion headquarters in Algiers, Nigerien Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr. Seydou Asman. The meeting was dedicated to fortifying economic and trade cooperation between Algeria and Niger, aiming to unlock new opportunities and strengthen bilateral ties.
The session highlighted several crucial areas for advancing bilateral relations. A primary focus was the proposed Free Trade Area project between Algeria and Niger, designed to enhance trade and economic integration between the two countries. The ministers also deliberated on optimizing the Trans-Saharan Highway for transporting goods from Algeria to Niger, a move anticipated to significantly ease trade flows and stimulate economic activities.
Minister Zitouni emphasized that the meeting served as a platform to reaffirm both nations’ dedication to revitalizing their economic and trade relations. The discussion included strategies for rejuvenating existing joint projects and identifying new collaborative opportunities to foster economic growth.
Minister Seydou Asman, on his part, underscored Niger’s eagerness to rejuvenate trade exchanges with Algeria. He expressed a strong interest in deepening cooperation, particularly leveraging Algeria’s expertise in trade and industry to bolster Niger’s economic development.
The meeting also explored the establishment of permanent trade exhibitions for Algerian products in Niger, aimed at increasing the visibility and market presence of Algerian goods. Both ministers discussed enhancing cooperation in several key sectors, including food, textiles, and chemicals, reflecting a shared vision for expanding bilateral economic engagements.
