ALGIERS- In an effort to address the growing challenges and worsening conflicts on the African continent, Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad, Ahmed Attaf, expressed concern about the situation in the Republic of Niger, emphasizing that it complicates the already precarious state of the entire Sahelo-Saharan region. Attaf’s remarks were made during the opening of the fifth session of the Joint Algerian-Tanzanian Cooperation Commission, where he called for stronger consultation and coordination between Algeria and Tanzania to foster strategic consensus on the need for African-driven solutions to African problems.

The crisis in Niger has become a matter of international concern, and Ahmed Attaf reiterated his strong commitment to supporting the return to constitutional order in the country. He affirmed his support for President Mohamed Bazoum as the legitimate leader, while also cautioning against any intentions of military intervention. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Community Abroad issued a press release emphasizing the importance of respecting Niger’s sovereignty and promoting peaceful resolutions to the conflict.

Furthermore, the Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs emphasized the continuous coordination between Algeria and Tanzania regarding developments in Libya, Mali, Sudan, and the Saharawi people’s plight in the last African colony. The commitment of the United Republic of Tanzania to support the struggle of the Saharawi people for self-determination, in accordance with the relevant resolutions of the United Nations and the African Union, was commended by Attaf.

The Algerian-Tanzanian Joint Cooperation Commission, co-chaired by Ahmed Attaf and the Tanzanian Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mrs. Stergomena Tax, has shown promising prospects for both countries in the political, diplomatic, economic, and social fields. Minister Attaf stressed the importance of maximizing opportunities for cooperation and integration between the economies of Algeria and Tanzania.

Both nations have demonstrated congruent positions in addressing the challenges faced by Africa, and they share a common commitment to advancing the objectives of security, stability, development, and integration on the continent. Ahmed Attaf highlighted the significance of bilateral cooperation by signing draft agreements and memoranda of understanding in various sectors, such as higher education, energy, electricity, gas, culture, trade, and archives.

As a testament to their commitment, Algeria and Tanzania will establish a joint council of businessmen, aimed at fostering trade and investment opportunities between the two nations.

The Joint Algerian-Tanzanian Cooperation Commission serves as a promising platform for the enhancement of regional stability and development, guided by the principles of African solidarity and self-reliance. By consolidating efforts and resources, both countries are taking meaningful strides towards achieving sustainable solutions to the challenges faced by the Sahelo-Saharan region. With unwavering determination, they strive to create a better future for the people of Africa.
