Establishment of a Palestinian State: The Hypocrisy of Mohammed VI’s Regime

ALGIERS, July 31, 2023- In a surprising turn of events, Commander of the Faithful Mohammed VI made a public announcement on July 29, expressing his kingdom’ support for the construction of a Palestinian state. While this declaration might have seemed like a step towards justice for the Palestinian people, it is crucial to shed light on the stark contrasts between his words and the actions of his regime. Mohammed VI’s regime has been deeply involved in agreements and actions that support the expansionist and annexationist policies of the Zionist entity, leaving many to question the sincerity of this recent proclamation.

The Makhzen regime’ stance on the Zionist-Palestinian conflict has been far from supportive of the Palestinian cause. The regime has been accused of making concessions to the Zionist entity, especially since the signing of the Abraham Accords in December 2020. These concessions have drawn criticism from various international communities concerned about the rights and welfare of the Palestinian people.

One notable example of this contradiction is the agreement the Makhzen regime signed with the Zionist entity for the employment of Moroccan labor in the occupied Palestinian territories. Such agreements only serve to bolster the policy of annexation and colonization initiated by the right-wing Zionist government, led by former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The regime’s head of diplomacy, Nasser Bourita, has also come under scrutiny for his questionable alignment with the Likud party, which has further undermined the Palestinian cause. His actions during the Arab summit in Algiers on November 1, 2022, where he attempted to obstruct discussions related to the Palestinian cause and the implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, have raised suspicions about his intentions.

It is evident that the Commander of the Faithful’s recent statement supporting a Palestinian state contradicts the actions of his regime, which seems to have become a protectorate of the Zionist entity. This alignment with a regime that perpetuates the colonization of Palestinian territories not only compromises the moral standing of Mohammed VI’s rule but also raises concerns about his commitment to advocating for Palestinian rights.

Furthermore, the regime’ silence on the continuous violations of Islamic holy places in the city of El Quds is troubling. As the Chairman of the Committee of El Quds, Mohammed VI is expected to actively address such violations and work towards safeguarding the rights of Muslims in the region. However, the lack of action and responsiveness from the Committee under his watch has left many disappointed.

The Spanish media’s revelation of the Commander of the Faithful being registered as an absentee subscriber for 200 days further exacerbates concerns about the power vacuum within Morocco. This lack of presence and engagement in crucial matters leaves room for speculation about the direction the regime is truly heading.

As advocates for peace and justice, it is our duty to question the integrity of leaders and hold them accountable for their words and actions. The Palestinian cause deserves unwavering support from the international community, and leaders should be consistent in their efforts to advance the interests of the Palestinian people.
