Algiers, Algeria | November 16th, 2024 — In a significant stride toward bolstering economic cooperation between Algeria and the European Union, Diego Mellado Pascua, Ambassador of the European Union to Algeria, participated in a high-level meeting with business leaders in Oran on November 13 and 14, 2024. The initiative, spearheaded by Kamel Moula, President of the Algerian Economic Renewal Council (CREA), sought to deepen the synergy between Algerian and European enterprises, particularly in the context of evolving global economic landscapes.
The first day of the ambassador’s visit featured a formal gathering with regional business leaders, attended by the Wali of Oran. Ambassador Mellado Pascua was introduced to the West Algerian region’s diverse industrial fabric, showcasing its dynamic economic potential and range of expertise. Discussions centered on fostering effective collaboration between Algerian and European stakeholders, emphasizing mutual benefits and opportunities for growth.
The ambassador commended the inclusive nature of Algeria’s economic partnership with European countries, noting that it spanned the entirety of the EU without discrimination. During the dialogue, Algerian enterprises expressed their aspirations to expand this collaboration by attracting new investments and embracing co-production models. Industry leaders underscored that co-production has transcended ambition to become an essential strategy in the face of global economic upheaval.
On November 14, Mellado Pascua toured TAPIDOR, a leading enterprise in the region, and lauded its state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge production tools, and commendable commitment to corporate social responsibility. He highlighted the company’s dedication to employee welfare as a model for fostering sustainable and inclusive industrial growth.
Concluding his two-day visit, the ambassador expressed delight at meeting Algerian economic operators whose capabilities align seamlessly with European enterprises. He reaffirmed the EU’s commitment to strengthening ties with Algeria, emphasizing the mutual advantages of leveraging complementary skills and resources. Mellado Pascua called for reinforcing bilateral relations through investments, joint ventures, and innovative co-production frameworks, heralding a new chapter in EU-Algerian economic collaboration.
This initiative underscores the growing momentum in the Algerian-European partnership, with Oran emerging as a pivotal hub for transformative projects aimed at sustainable development and economic resilience.
