Three startups were selected, Tuesday in Algiers, to represent Algeria at the 3rd edition of the international competition “Entrepreneurship world cup” (EWC).
The winners were revealed during a ceremony which took place at the El-Aurassi hotel, in the presence of the Minister of the Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises, Yacine El-Mahdi Oualid , the CEO of Algeria Venture, Sidi Ali Zerrouki, and the president of Global entrepreneurhip network (GEN-Algeria), Fatiha Rachdi.
This is the start-up “Zero cash” (first prize) which offers an electronic payment solution for merchants, the startup Sign’O (second prize) which has developed an application intended for deaf-mutes, translating the language of signs in spoken language and the startup Met Africa (third prize) for its distance learning application.
The three Algerian winners will participate in the EWC World Final to be held in Riyadh in March 2023.
The Entrepreneurship world cup, a global initiative launched by GEN, is expected to welcome this year more than 100,000 entrepreneurs from 180 countries who will compete to win 1 million dollars (shared between the three best projects), in addition to in-kind benefits. (perks), training and investment opportunities, according to the organizers.
To select the representatives of Algeria during this international competition, 349 startups submitted their applications but only 70 of them were able to meet the requirements of the EWC.
The selection process in Algeria was spread over several stages organized by GEN-Algeria in partnership with Algeria Venture, under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-enterprises.
During his speech, Oualid stressed the importance of this competition in promoting entrepreneurship and the knowledge economy.
