Exceptional Celebration in London Marks the 62nd Anniversary of Algeria’s Independence

Algiers, Algeria | July 6th, 2024 — The Algerian Embassy in the United Kingdom, London, hosted an exceptional event on Friday to commemorate the 62nd anniversary of Algeria’s independence. The celebration attracted an unprecedented number of attendees, highlighting the significance of this historical milestone for the Algerian community in the UK.
Leading the event were Mr. Nourreddine Yazid, the Algerian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and Mr. Abdelmadjid Amini, the Consul General. The gathering also included embassy and consulate staff, as well as a large contingent of Algerian nationals residing in the UK.
The ceremony commenced with the Algerian national anthem, followed by a welcoming speech from Ambassador Yazid. He emphasized the profound importance of this day, which symbolizes the immense sacrifices made by the Algerian people over 132 years of struggle against colonialism. Ambassador Yazid highlighted the strong commitment of the Algerian government to the diaspora, assuring that the embassy’s doors are always open to address their concerns. He also acknowledged President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s efforts in prioritizing the needs of Algerians abroad.
Consul General Abdelmadjid Amini also delivered a speech, underlining the significance of the 62nd Independence Day and its relevance to the youth. He paid tribute to the substantial sacrifices of the Algerian people in their quest for freedom and independence.
The event witnessed an unprecedented turnout from the Algerian community, making it the largest gathering in the history of the Algerian embassy in London. The attendees represented diverse age groups and professional backgrounds, including children, academics, artists, and athletes.
Held in a spacious hall within the Algerian Consulate in London, the celebration featured the recognition of community members who have significantly contributed to its welfare. Honorees included the athlete Moussaoui and Ms. Mouna Hamitouche, as well as children who are studying the Arabic language.
Following the awards, the event showcased a traditional Algerian fashion show, highlighting the beauty and richness of Algerian heritage. The celebration also included musical performances by a band that sang well-known Algerian songs.
The evening concluded with a festive dinner, fostering an atmosphere of patriotism and a strong sense of belonging to Algeria. This remarkable event not only commemorated a pivotal moment in Algeria’s history but also reinforced the strong ties within the Algerian community in the United Kingdom.
