Algiers, Algeria | February 10th, 2025 — In an exclusive interview with Dzair Tube, Algerian international and FC Copenhagen rising star Amin Chiakha opened up about his ambitions with the national team, his club goals, and the pivotal decision to represent Algeria on the international stage. Speaking from his home in Copenhagen, the young forward shared his aspirations of leading the Fennecs to Africa Cup of Nations triumph and securing a place in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Thriving at FC Copenhagen and Pursuing Silverware

Currently excelling at FC Copenhagen, Chiakha expressed satisfaction with his club’s performance. “Everything is going well; we are leading the Danish Superliga, and we aim to maintain our dominance. Additionally, we are still competing in the UEFA Europa Conference League, where we will face Germany’s Heidenheim in our next fixture.”

For this season, his primary objectives are crystal clear. “I want to lift the Danish league trophy, which I have previously won at the youth level. Now, my ambition is to achieve it with the senior squad. Additionally, I aspire to push as far as possible in the Conference League, hopefully reaching the semi-finals. We have a strong team, and we approach each game with a winning mentality.”

Interest from Other Clubs and Loyalty to Copenhagen

Following an impressive season in which he emerged as the top scorer for FC Copenhagen’s youth team and made a significant impact in the UEFA Youth League, Chiakha inevitably attracted interest from clubs beyond Denmark. “There were some discussions between my agent and a few clubs. However, my focus remained on earning a spot with Copenhagen’s senior squad, which is why I signed a new contract. I have a clear career plan here before considering any future moves, as no player remains at one club forever. But for now, I am content and fully committed to my progress.”

Receiving the Call from Algeria’s National Team

The highly anticipated moment arrived when Chiakha was called up by Algeria’s head coach, Vladimir Petković. “I was at home watching the coach’s press conference and later saw the news of my selection on social media. Though I was aware of the possibility, I wasn’t entirely sure until it was officially confirmed.”

His initial interaction with the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) was brief but meaningful. “I had a short conversation with Coach Petković. He hinted at my potential inclusion in the squad but emphasized the importance of consistent performances and regular playing time. His encouragement motivated me even further.”

An Unforgettable Welcome to the Algerian National Team

Upon joining the squad for the first time at the national training center in Sidi Moussa, Chiakha felt an immediate sense of belonging. “It was a surreal experience to train alongside players I had watched on television competing in top European leagues. Meeting figures like Riyad Mahrez, who lifted the AFCON trophy, was truly inspiring.”

Reflecting on the warm reception, he added, “Everyone welcomed me with open arms. Mahrez, as the captain, took the time to speak with me and even mentioned that he had watched my performances in the Conference League. His words of encouragement meant a lot. The entire squad treated me exceptionally well, making my transition seamless.”

Choosing Algeria Over Denmark: A Decision from the Heart

While some dual-national players hesitate in committing to an international team, Chiakha had no doubts. “Choosing Algeria was a heartfelt decision. I have always maintained a strong connection to the country, visiting regularly in both summer and winter. It was not an easy choice, but I followed what I believed was best for my career. I saw a future with the Algerian national team, and my mind was made up.”

Given his Danish heritage through his mother, he acknowledged that she initially hoped he would represent Denmark. “She wanted me to play for Denmark, but ultimately, she respected my decision and supported me fully. She never imposed her preference on me; she simply wanted me to choose what was best for my future.”

His father, on the other hand, was particularly thrilled. “My father was overjoyed with my choice. He told me from the beginning that he would support whichever national team I picked, but I could see how much it meant to him when I chose Algeria.”

Dreams of AFCON Glory and World Cup Participation

Chiakha is clear about his objectives with Les Fennecs. “I want to represent Algeria in the Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup. It has been too long since we last qualified for the World Cup, and I want to be part of the squad that brings us back to that stage. Winning the AFCON is another ultimate goal—I want to help Algeria lift that trophy again.”

Admiration for Benzema and the Passion of Algerian Fans

A self-proclaimed admirer of Karim Benzema, Chiakha appreciates the former Real Madrid striker’s technical brilliance. “I have always looked up to Benzema. His ball control, finishing, and intelligence on the field are qualities I aspire to emulate.”

One of his most cherished experiences came during a visit to Guelma, where his family resides. “I love the passion Algerians have for football. When I visited Guelma, I was honored during a match between ES Guelma and JS Kabylie in the Algerian Cup. Hearing fans chant my name was an unforgettable moment. It reaffirmed my connection to Algeria and my desire to give my all for the national team.”
