Explosive Revelations from Dissident Moroccan Soldier: Severe Resource Shortages and Exploitation by Moroccan Monarchy

Algiers, Algeria | August 9th, 2024 — A former Moroccan soldier, now residing as a political refugee in Italy, has provided an incisive and detailed account of his experiences within the Moroccan military. His statements offer a critical examination of the severe resource shortages, exploitation by the Moroccan monarchy, and instances of misconduct that he witnessed during his service.

The dissident soldier highlighted the acute lack of essential resources, particularly focusing on severe deficiencies in food and water supplies. He recounted that water had to be transported from wells to their locations using tankers, underscoring the extreme and precarious conditions endured by the troops.

He expressed significant dissatisfaction with the Moroccan monarchy’s failure to support its military personnel, stating, “The royal state never provided us with a single football to play with,” and noted that soldiers were not provided with adequate clothing. He further criticized the monarchy for exploiting the military for its own ends, asserting, “We were exploited by the royal state just to fulfill its requirements.”

Additionally, the former soldier made serious accusations against Colonel Mustafa Al-Rafai, accusing him of distributing cannabis among the soldiers. He noted that the drug, sourced from Fez, was distributed within the military ranks, raising concerns about corruption and unethical practices.

In his assessment of the Polisario Front, the former soldier commented on their operational efficiency, suggesting that ten members of the Polisario Front could successfully complete missions that Moroccan soldiers found challenging. He asserted, “Ten Polisario soldiers can defeat 100 Moroccan soldiers,” reflecting his perception of a significant disparity in effectiveness between the two groups.
