Algiers, Algeria | July 15th, 2024 — The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has announced the extension of the general agricultural census until July 27th, initially slated to conclude on July 17th, a ministry official revealed on Monday.
Reason for Extension
Mohamed Tifouri, Director of Information Systems, Statistics, and Forecasting at the ministry, explained to the public news agency that the national committee responsible for the preparation and execution of the census had considered extension requests from several provinces (wilayas). Based on these requests, it was decided to extend the operation by an additional ten days.
Impact of External Factors
Tifouri highlighted that the ministry noted, during the interim evaluation of the census, that the initial period was marked by specific conditions such as sandstorms in several regions, the celebration of Eid Al-Adha, and end-of-year examinations. These factors caused disparities in the progress of the census from one wilaya to another.
Ensuring Comprehensive Coverage
In this context, Tifouri stated that extending the census period would ensure that all remaining agricultural operations are covered. He also shared that the national census progress reached 93% as of Sunday, with an expected 95% completion rate by Monday, a figure he described as “very good.”
This extension aims to facilitate a thorough and accurate completion of the agricultural census, reflecting the diverse and sometimes challenging conditions faced across Algeria.
