Algiers- Algeria, May 10, 2024 – Members of the People’s National Assembly (APN) who represent the Algerian diaspora overseas have expressed their gratitude for President Tebboune’s recent decision to facilitate travel to Algeria for Algerians residing abroad.
Toufik Khedim, who represents the Algerian community in France, affirmed that the President’s decision to permit entry and exit from the country without the need for a visa demonstrates “the continued concern of the President of the Republic for the welfare of members of the national community.”
He further noted that the instructions issued by the President “will enable members of the national community to plan their visits to Algeria during the summer of 2024 at their convenience,” specifying that “these instructions will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the functioning of Algerian consulates, as the usual workload will be reduced.”
A Decision in Accordance with the Expiry of the First Wave of Biometric Passports
Ibrahim Dekhinat, representing the Algerian community in the Americas, Canada, and Europe, welcomed these instructions, highlighting their alignment with the expiration of the first wave of Algerian biometric passports, ten years after their initial issuance.
He explained, “This situation would have impeded their travel to Algeria, and the decision made by the President of the Republic anticipated this issue.”
Meanwhile, Rahmani Faris, representing the Algerian diaspora in the Americas and Europe, estimated that “the potential issue resulting from the large number of passport renewal requests has been resolved thanks to the wise decision of the President of the Republic to exceptionally replace expired passports with biometric identity cards.”
Faris believes that this decision “will ensure the right of Algerian citizens to travel as guaranteed by the Constitution,” indicating that the President’s directives on the organization and improvement of consular services meet the desires of the Algerian community abroad and are expected to positively impact the quality of services provided to them.”
