Algiers, Algeria- The Algerian Football Federation is on the cusp of a new era as the resignation of President Djahid Zefizef has set in motion the process of finding his successor. Following his unsuccessful bid for a position in the African Football Federation and the subsequent loss in the executive office elections, Djahid Zefizef stepped down from his role, leaving behind a trail of football and managerial failures during his one-year tenure at the helm of “FAF.”

In fact, Djahid Zefizef’s brief tenure at the helm of the Algerian Football Federation “FAF” was riddled with disappointment and setbacks. Within just one year, he presided over a series of football and coaching failures that marred the nation’ sporting reputation. The early eliminations of all national teams across different age groups in various competitions were disheartening, reflecting a lack of proper strategy and preparation. However, the most glaring stain on his leadership was the scandal surrounding the women’s team’s exclusion from the Olympic qualifiers for Paris 2024—an egregious oversight that sent shockwaves through the football community. Zefizef’s shortcomings extended beyond the national level, as he also failed to secure a seat in the Executive Office of the Confederation of African Football, highlighting a lack of influence and credibility in the broader football governance landscape. His inability to handle Algeria’s bid to host the “Cannes” 2025 event further underscored his ineffectiveness as a leader. Additionally, the mismanagement of the national championship raised questions about his decision-making and vision for Algerian football.

With the dissolution of the Federal Bureau, the stage is now set for the upcoming elections to elect the next president.

Mohamed Raouraoua’s Return to Algerian Football Association Excluded

Despite his vast experience in management and strong connections within continental and international football circles, the return of Mohamed Raouraoua to the Algerian Football Association seems to be excluded. After Djahid Zefizef’s tenure, Raouraoua’s name emerged as a potential successor, and many speculated on the possibility of his comeback to lead the federation. However, reliable sources close to the situation have confirmed to “Dzair Sport” that Raouraoua has no intention of running for office in the current elections. Despite expressing his willingness to assist the future president in revitalizing Algerian football’s prominence, his return at this time remains highly improbable. The football community may have to look elsewhere for new leadership to guide Algeria back to its sporting glory.

The Resolute Contender: Walid Sadi Emerges as the Frontrunner

Amid the uncertainty surrounding the names of potential candidates, one figure stands out as the most prominent contender – Walid Sadi. The former member of the Federal Bureau has expressed his readiness to run for the presidency of the Algerian Football Federation once Djahid Zefizef’s term officially ends. Sadi’s candidacy brings with it a wealth of experience in football management, having previously worked alongside former president Mohamed Raouraoua.

Walid Sadi’s readiness to run for the presidency of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF) after the end of Zefizef’s term is undeniable, and he stands out as a formidable candidate for various compelling reasons. Firstly, his unparalleled experience in managing the federation, particularly his previous collaboration with the esteemed former FAF president, Mohamed Raouraoua, showcases his expertise and understanding of the complexities involved. This hands-on experience will undoubtedly prove invaluable in guiding the FAF towards a brighter future. Moreover, Sadi’s close association with Raouraoua has allowed him to grasp the intricacies of the organization and its functioning intimately.

Furthermore, one cannot ignore the massive popularity Walid Sadi has garnered among the loyal supporters of Algerian football, affectionately known as the Greens. This significant following is a testament to his unwavering commitment and dedication to the sport, and it places him in a unique position to rejuvenate Algerian football on both the African and global stages. With Sadi at the helm, there is a strong likelihood of regaining Algeria’s prominence in the international football arena.

Equally noteworthy is Sadi’s involvement in addressing the rampant corruption that has plagued the African Football Authority (CAF). His presence in the corridors of CAF during such challenging times demonstrates his courage and determination to tackle these critical issues head-on. As president of the FAF, he would be in a prime position to lead the charge in promoting transparency, integrity, and accountability in African football governance.

On another level, the Algerian public’s response to Zefizef’s resignation has been marked by a sense of nostalgia for the time of Mohamed Raouraoua. During his tenure, Raouraoua achieved significant milestones not only for Algeria but also for the wider African and Arab football community. The “Bahamas law,” which he played a crucial role in implementing, allowed Algeria to benefit from the talent of many expatriate players, boosting the national team’s capabilities. His involvement in Qatar’s successful World Cup bid and the launch of various Arab and regional tournaments further solidified his legacy as an impactful football administrator.

As the nation looks to replicate the successes of Raouraoua’s time, many Algerians pin their hopes on Walid Sadi. His previous contributions to ES Setif’ success, both organizationally and financially, have earned him praise, and his ability to attract top talent to the club suggests he could potentially do the same for the national team. Algerian fans are especially excited about players like Bennacer, who is considered one of the best in the world in his position and is seen as the future of Algerian football.

While the race for the presidency of “FAF” has just begun, Walid Sadi emerges as a strong contender. He possesses a rare blend of experience, popularity, and the courage to confront pressing issues within the football community. His candidacy for the presidency of the FAF represents a beacon of hope for the future of Algerian football, promising a brighter and more prosperous era for the sport at both continental and global levels.

Anthar Yahia Blocks the Way for Opportunists, Confirms No Interest in Heading FAF

In the aftermath of Djahid Zefizef’s resignation as President of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), former Algerian national team captain, Anthar Yahia, has made a resolute statement to thwart any attempts to exploit his name for personal gain. Speaking exclusively to sources close to Dzair Tube, Yahia emphasized that his visit to Algeria was solely to reunite with his family, dispelling any rumors of his interest in taking the helm at the FAF.

Abdelhakim Serrar: Leveraging a Lifetime of Experience to Conquer the Daly Ibrahim Building

Abdelhakim Serrar stands as a formidable candidate for the presidency of the Algerian Football Federation, drawing upon his vast experience in management and leadership. As the local president of ES Setif and having previously contested in the elections, Serrar knows the significance of his experience and is determined not to repeat past mistakes. This time, he enters the race with unwavering confidence, backed by an array of influential figures, including Algerian football legend Lakhdar Belloumi. Serrar’s optimism stems from his undeniable charisma and an impressive track record, both in the realm of sports and management.

Amidst the other contenders, such as Abdel Karim Medawar, president of the current association, and Ammar Bahloul and Rachid Okali, presidents of regional associations, Serrar’s experience and strategic approach set him apart. He envisions a future for the Algerian Football Federation that will elevate the sport to new heights, garnering support from members of the General Assembly. With the backing of esteemed figures and a rich biography that underscores his capabilities, Serrar’s bid for the presidency of “Al-Faf” holds considerable promise.

The Algerian football community eagerly awaits the forthcoming extraordinary electoral assembly, where the visions and ambitions of the candidates will be unveiled. As the days draw closer to this momentous event, the focus remains on the visionaries and their proposals for the future of Algerian football. The nation awaits the emergence of a leader who can guide them to success and reinvigorate the sport at all levels.
