ALGIERS- In a recent tweet, Walid Sadi, the president of the Algerian Football Federation (FAF), expressed regret and issued apologies to the fans and the Algerian people for the disappointing performance of the national team in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), resulting in an early exit from the tournament.
Sadi stated, “We apologize to the fans of the national team and the Algerian people. We regret the way the warriors presented themselves in the AFCON, exiting in the first round. We made every effort and provided ideal conditions for our players to shine and achieve the goal. We apologize once again to the millions of Algerians who love their national team and will undoubtedly continue to support it in future competitions.”
Acknowledging the need for change, Sadi revealed that he had met with the national coach, Djamel Belmadi, to discuss the repercussions of the team’s early elimination. As a result, an amicable agreement was reached to terminate Belmadi’s contract with the Algerian Football Federation.
“We thank Coach Djamel Belmadi for everything he has provided to the national team, and we wish him good luck in his future endeavors,” added Sadi.
Sadi emphasized that the recent setback is a turning point for Algerian football, promising a radical transformation and a genuine revolution within the national team. He assured fans that the federation is committed to creating an optimal environment for work and building on this setback to reclaim Algeria’s continental and international standing.
“We renew our apologies to the fans of the national team and the Algerian people. We promise to correct the mistakes of the past with one goal: to restore our position regionally and globally,” said Sadi.
In a rallying call to supporters, Sadi urged the unity of efforts from everyone, especially the loyal fans, emphasizing their continued support for the national team. The message concluded with a spirited “Long live Algeria!” reflecting a commitment to the revitalization of Algerian football.
