Failed Attempt to Tarnish Algeria’s Image during AFCON, Algerian-Ivorian Relations Rise Above Petty Schemes

ALGIERS- The African Cup of Nations (AFCON) has evolved into more than just a sports event, becoming a stabilizing force amidst the turmoil, crises, and social problems many African countries face. This continental championship contributes to Africa’s development, integration, and the unity of its people.
The ongoing tournament in Ivory Coast, a fraternal nation, exemplifies the unifying power of AFCON, transcending ethnic or religious differences among football enthusiasts. Ivory Coast, with its rich football history, turns AFCON into a celebration of Africa, embracing its African identity deeply rooted in its culture.
Algeria, maintaining strong ties with Ivory Coast, believes this edition will be a complete success, further enhancing the brotherhood between African nations. Football unites people when politics divides them. For participants in this African football spectacle, politics has no place, whether on the field or in the stands.
Regrettably, Morocco, with its colonial and oppressive history, seeks to disrupt the Ivorian celebration with its malicious and conspiratorial actions against Algeria. There is no doubt about the success of Ivory Coast in organizing AFCON, despite Morocco’s attempts to sabotage it.
Evidence of this interference is apparent in the actions of Morocco’s colonizers in Abidjan, reminiscent of the behaviors of barbarous spies. They exploited the limited verbal slip of an Algerian influencer, turning it into a matter involving the entire nation. Algerians, unanimously condemning these remarks, affirm that they do not represent them and are entirely inconsistent with their values.
Algerians and Ivorians reject falling into the Moroccan trap, understanding that the words of a blogger with questionable credibility should not affect the historical relations between Algeria and Ivory Coast.
Ivorians must keep an eye on the Moroccans. Many Moroccans did not come to Abidjan solely to watch the Atlas Lions’ matches. Videos circulating, targeting Algerian-Ivorian relations, reveal a truth that Ivorian authorities should not overlook. The AFCON spirit should prevail over divisive schemes and baseless accusations.
