Algiers, Algeria | October 7th, 2024 — The Fiat manufacturing plant, located in the industrial zone of Tafraoui in Oran, was inaugurated in December 2023. From the outset, the facility commenced operations by producing models of the Fiat 500. By June 2024, a second assembly line was established, enabling the production of the new Fiat Doblò model.
As of now, the plant has a production rate of four Fiat 500 vehicles per hour and thirteen Fiat Doblò vehicles per hour. This was confirmed by Ali Aoun, the Minister of Industry and Pharmaceutical Production, who inspected the facility on October 3 and oversaw the launch of the “Made in Algeria” Fiat Doblò.
According to Samir Cherfan, the Regional Director for Africa and the Middle East at Stellantis, the current daily production capacity of the plant is 350 vehicles. The automotive group Stellantis, which owns the factory, has set an ambitious target of producing 24,000 vehicles by the end of 2024. In terms of long-term development, the plant aims to achieve a local integration rate of 35% by 2026, with an annual production capacity projected to reach 90,000 vehicles.
Currently, the Oran plant employs over 1,100 workers. Additionally, it is expected to begin production of the glass version of the Fiat Doblò by the end of this year.
During his visit to the Fiat Algeria automotive plant in Tafraoui, Minister Ali Aoun presided over the signing of four agreements with local subcontractors specializing in the manufacture of various automotive components, including wheels, electrical and electronic fibers, and GPL kits. This collaboration underscores the commitment to enhancing local production capabilities and supporting the Algerian automotive industry.
