ALGIERS- Oran’s Wali, Saïd Sayoud, provided an update on Tuesday regarding the development of the highly anticipated “FIAT” car manufacturing plant in Tafraoui, located in the wilaya of Oran, Algeria.
Mr. Sayoud announced that the construction progress of the project, which is expected to create around 3,000 direct job opportunities, has reached an impressive 60%. The pace of work is commendable, with the aim of completing the project on schedule and ensuring that the first vehicle rolls off the assembly line before the end of this year, as planned.
During his statement, the Wali of Oran also emphasized the importance of the Italian officials from FIAT honoring all their commitments made to the Algerian authorities. This underscores the significance of timely completion and adherence to agreements, fostering a strong partnership between FIAT and the local authorities.
Three Companies Tasked with External Infrastructure
On Tuesday, the installation of three companies responsible for the external development work of the “FIAT” factory in the Tafraoui industrial zone was announced. These companies will play a crucial role in shaping the surroundings of the factory, enhancing its functionality and integration with the existing infrastructure.
The first company will be responsible for external development encompassing an area of 40 hectares. This includes road construction, connecting the factory to the drinking water supply, sanitation facilities, and rainwater drainage networks.
The second company will undertake similar tasks in the factory’s extension area, covering an area of 38 hectares. Their focus will be on extending the external developments to accommodate the factory’s expansion plans.
Lastly, the third company will be entrusted with developing the area designated for subcontracting companies, covering a vast expanse of 42 hectares. This area will serve as a hub for supporting businesses and ancillary services related to the factory’s operations.
Strict Deadlines and Expectations
In line with the urgency and importance of the project, the Wali has instructed the aforementioned companies to complete their tasks within a maximum period of six months. This demonstrates the commitment to timely execution and ensures that the external infrastructure is fully prepared to support the operational needs of the FIAT factory.
The installation of these three companies marks another significant milestone in the realization of the FIAT manufacturing plant in Oran. With the rapid progress of the construction and the commencement of external infrastructure development, the project is steadily moving towards its completion, bringing hope for economic growth and job opportunities to the region.
The FIAT factory in Tafraoui is poised to become a prominent landmark and a symbol of industrial progress in Oran. Its successful establishment will not only contribute to the local economy but also solidify Algeria’s position in the automotive manufacturing sector. As we eagerly await the arrival of the first vehicle from this plant, the collaborative efforts between FIAT and the Algerian authorities promise a fruitful partnership and a prosperous future.
