Algiers, Algeria | May 21, 2024 — The Fiat automobile factory in Oran is set to launch its second automated production line by the end of June, aiming to significantly increase its manufacturing capacity to 60,000 vehicles annually. This development was announced by Saïd Sayoud, the Wali of Oran, during the opening session of the People’s Assembly of the Wilaya, presided over by Mohamed Chalabi.
Located in the Tafraoui industrial zone, the Fiat factory, owned by the Stellantis Group, has been making significant strides in expanding its operations. The factory, which was inaugurated on December 11, has embarked on an extension project since March to further enhance its production capabilities. This expansion is expected to raise the factory’s output to 90,000 units per year by 2026.
Expansion and Local Integration
The new production line and the ongoing investments at the factory are set to boost the local automotive industry. The factory’s expansion will include new body paint and welding workshops, aimed at increasing the local integration rate and boosting employment in the sector. This expansion is projected to create up to 2,000 new jobs, thereby contributing to the overall development of Algeria’s automotive industry.
Current and Future Production Goals
For the current year, the Oran factory is expected to produce 40,000 Fiat cars, according to Samir Cherfan, Director of the Middle East and Africa region for Stellantis. In an interview published on April 21 in the newspaper El Watan, Cherfan discussed the ambitious plans for the factory’s growth.
Since the launch of Fiat in Algeria in March 2023, Fiat Algeria has imported 97,000 vehicles into the Algerian market. This figure was shared by Cherfan on March 22, marking the first anniversary of Fiat’s operations in Algeria.
