Finalization of study project for Gara Djebilet-Tindouf-Bechar railway line

ALGIERS- The director of the railway line project linking Gara Djebilet to Bechar via Tindouf reported the finalization of the study project, during a coordination meeting held Thursday at the headquarters of the wilaya of Tindouf, reported the APS agency.

In a statement to the press on the sidelines of this meeting which brought together the local authorities and the heads of the National Agency for Studies and Monitoring of the Implementation of Railway Investments (ANESRIF), responsible for the study of the line linking the region from Gara Djebilet to Bechar via Tindouf, Mr. Abdechafi Ben Rabia reported on “the finalization of this line and the management of the difficulties to facilitate the various stages of this important project for the region and the national economy”.

“This meeting constitutes the third stage of the ANESRIF action program after the holding of two other meetings in Bechar and Beni Abbes in order to define the route of the railway”, he continued.

According to the same official, this meeting made it possible to deal with the various anomalies which could hinder the best route of this line which is of major economic importance for the entire region and constitutes an important means of transporting passengers and goods, in particular for the various metals and raw materials extracted from the Gara Djebilet mine and adjacent regions by transferring them to the port of Arzew (Oran).

He indicated, in this sense, that the high authorities of the country attached great importance to the reduction of the deadlines for the realization of this project, the study of which is about to be finalized after the definition of the final route of the line, which will make it possible to determine the financial envelope to be allocated to support the various stages of implementation.

The same official said that this line will pass through a route of about 900 km, including more than 500 km in Tindouf, 178 km in Beni Abbès and about 220 km for the wilaya of Béchar.

For his part, the wali of Tindouf, Mohamed Mokhbi, affirmed that this meeting was the second of its kind in the wilaya after the first one which brought together the majority of the executives concerned by the project, who contributed to identifying the various difficulties which hinder the project.

The wali indicated that the meeting had also enabled all the technical departments to express their opinion on the layout and to present their observations to help the project manager in his work, stressing that the project will be beneficial by creating jobs , in addition to economic benefits for the country in general.
