FLN: Benmbarek Applauds National Media’s Role in Confronting Hostile Plans Targeting Algeria

Algiers- Algeria, May 6, 2024 – Abdelkrim Benmbarek, the Secretary-General (SG) of the National Liberation Front (FLN) party, commended the significant progress made by the national media and their pivotal role in thwarting hostile agendas aimed at the country during an event in Algiers on Monday.
Speaking at a Study Day on “The Media Landscape in Algeria: Challenges and Issues,” organized to commemorate World Press Freedom Day, Benmbarek highlighted that Algeria “has witnessed a remarkable advancement in the media sector and has equipped it with all necessary resources to effectively counter hostile schemes targeting the security and stability of the nation.”
Benmbarek stressed that the endeavors of the national media “are in harmony with the ongoing transformation and the construction of the new Algeria under the guidance of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune,” commending the achievements made, which reflect the principles of the Constitution and “strengthening the legal and organizational framework through the enactment of significant laws in this domain.” He further asserted that Algeria “stands among the forefront of nations that uphold the rights of this esteemed profession and spare no effort to promote them,” with the aim of empowering the media to confront risks and threats facing the country and contribute to portraying an accurate image of Algeria internationally.
Additionally, Benmbarek criticized “the policy of double standards” advocated by Western media and their biased coverage of the aggression by the Zionist entity against the defenseless Palestinian people, emphasizing “the crucial role of Algerian media in supporting resistance efforts and exposing Zionist atrocities.”
In this context, he announced his party’s establishment of a “Media Prize” to “encourage journalists to uphold press freedom and demonstrate creativity and excellence.”
The Study Day, which commenced with a moment of silence to honor the martyrs of the profession, provided an opportunity to pay tribute to journalists from various generations, including the families of those who participated in the esteemed National Liberation Revolution.
