FLN Leadership Reshuffle: Abdelkrim Benmbarek Allocates Roles to New Political Bureau Formation

New Leadership and Vision Unveiled in FLN's Second Central Committee Session

ALGIERS- The National Liberation Front (FLN) held its second regular session of the central committee resulting from the 11th congress held last November in Algiers.

On the agenda of this second session were the approval of the internal regulations, the composition of the four permanent commissions of the formation, and the endorsement of the new political bureau of the party.

Abdelkrim Benmbarek announced the composition of the new FLN political bureau. The team consists of 12 members, including 3 women. The list includes former Minister of Agriculture from the 1990s, Belalia Boulahouadjeb, legal expert Chihoub Messaoud, former deputy Mohamed Kennai, Bouhadja Samir, Mansouri Lydia, Diab Moufida, and Farida Ilimi.

This new bureau is described by some central committee members as “intergenerational” as it comprises both veteran figures who built the party and many young talents tasked with implementing the roadmap set by the new secretary-general.

In his opening speech at the start of the meeting, Abdelkrim Benmbarek stated that this session “will define the outlines of the next stage so that the party’s activity is extensive and effective on various fronts, preserving the unity and harmony of the party.”

The FLN leader reiterated his commitment to honor his “commitments” and live up to the “trust” placed in him, emphasizing that his endorsement at the helm of the party “reflects the high degree” of awareness among members and confirms their will to preserve the stability of the FLN, which has come a long way.

“We consider this stability as a red line not to be crossed,” he asserted. Referring to upcoming electoral events, Benmbarek urged party members to prepare and close ranks in anticipation of these future electoral challenges.

He emphasized that unifying the ranks is achieved through a collective, participatory vision that rejects exclusion and discrimination. He also called for turning a new page and “erasing” the dark pages of the past that “do not honor the FLN.”

For Benmbarek, the most crucial aspect today is not to dwell on the past but rather to rebuild trust to lead the upcoming political consultations united, in a spirit of dialogue, far from conflicts of interest.

The speaker advocated for the promotion of transparency: “The 11th congress definitively settled the issue of legitimacy through the election of a central committee and the consensual endorsement of the secretary-general under democratic conditions.” This sequence is considered “a qualitative leap for the party.”

Abdelkrim Benmbarek expressed support for the clash of ideas but within the respect of the laws and statutes of the party. He is convinced of the indispensability of complying with societal changes to better meet citizen expectations.

On another note, the FLN secretary-general reiterated his party’s solidarity with the Palestinian people “in their heroic resistance,” which has once again brought the Palestinian issue to the forefront despite the destructive war waged by the Zionist entity against the Gaza Strip.
