ALGIERS- Rachid M’Barki, the former presenter of the French news channel BFM TV, and a Franco-Moroccan journalist, has been placed under investigation in connection with suspicions of broadcasting segments without the authorization of his superiors under the influence of a foreign power, namely the Moroccan regime.

According to French media outlet Libération, Rachid M’Barki was indicted by judges as part of an inquiry opened for “passive corruption” and “breach of trust,” following an X-file complaint filed on February 22, 2023, by BFM TV.

The presenter, who was dismissed in the spring, is accused by his former employer of broadcasting propaganda segments provided ready-made by an intermediary on behalf of various foreign states, including Morocco and Bahrain. He had suddenly relocated to Morocco with his family, prompting doubts about his potential return to France.

The investigation is expected to delve into the accusations of corruption and abuse of trust, examining the extent of foreign influence on the editorial decisions and content aired during M’Barki’s tenure at BFM TV.
