Tlemcen, July 16, 2023 – Abdelatif Baba Ahmed, the former Minister of National Education and prominent figure in Algerian academia, has passed away at the age of 72. The respected statesman and educator left this world on Sunday morning, leaving behind a legacy of tireless dedication to the advancement of education in Algeria.
Abdelatif Baba Ahmed’s funeral will be held today in his hometown of Tlemcen following the prayer of El Asr.
Born on June 10, 1951, Abdelatif Baba Ahmed served as the Minister of National Education from September 2012 to May 2014. During his tenure, he spearheaded numerous initiatives aimed at enhancing the quality and accessibility of education for Algerian students.
Prior to his role as Minister of National Education, Baba Ahmed served as the rector of the University of Blida from 2005 to 2012. Under his guidance, the university witnessed remarkable growth and development, becoming a hub of academic excellence and innovation. Additionally, he held the position of secretary general of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research from 2002 to 2004, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the policies and strategies for higher education in Algeria.
Abdelatif Baba Ahmed’s contributions to Algerian education will be remembered for years to come. His legacy serves as an inspiration for future generations of educators and policymakers, urging them to continue his noble mission of advancing education and empowering the nation through knowledge.
