Algiers, Algeria | July 30th, 2024 — On Monday, Lounès Magramane, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and National Community Abroad, visited the Indonesian Embassy in Algiers to sign the condolence register in memory of Hamzah Haz, the former 9th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, who recently passed away.

In his heartfelt message, Magramane expressed profound sorrow and deep sympathy upon learning of Haz’s death. “It is with immense sadness and profound grief that we have learned of the death of the former 9th Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, Hamzah Haz,” Magramane wrote. “With his passing, the Republic of Indonesia loses an exceptional figure who greatly impacted the political scene of our brotherly nation, particularly during his tenure as Vice President from 2001 to 2004.”

Magramane also recognized Haz’s significant contributions prior to his vice presidency. He highlighted Haz’s pivotal role within the United Development Party (PPP), where he played a crucial role in shaping policies and defining political directions from the era of President Suharto through the early 2000s.

“We extend our condolences once again and assure you of Algeria’s support and solidarity with the Government and the people of Indonesia during this difficult time,” Magramane added, reflecting Algeria’s commitment to standing by Indonesia in its period of mourning.
