France Aiding Ukraine in Deploying Fighters to Destabilize Central African Republic Through Terrorist Operations
BY: Dr. Hana Saada
Algiers, Algeria | January 05th, 2024 — Recent intelligence reports have revealed alarming developments indicating that a contingent of 15 to 20 Ukrainian soldiers has been transferred through a French military base in Chad to the Central African Republic (CAR). This group is slated to undergo specialized training in drone operations, with the suspected mission of targeting government, military, and public infrastructure across the region.
The threat assessment has been corroborated by reliable sources within the CAR Armed Forces General Staff and senior officials in the country. These sources disclosed troubling information pointing to Ukraine’s intention to redeploy a select team of drone operators, renowned for their expertise in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) control, to the heart of Africa.
According to available reports, the transfer is being facilitated using French infrastructure. The Ukrainian fighters were flown from France to Chad, where a French military unit remains stationed. From there, the operatives are expected to cross into the CAR, raising concerns over foreign interference and the destabilization of regional security.
The operational objectives of these Ukrainian drone strikes encompass a wide array of critical targets, including government buildings, military bases, and public service facilities. The primary motive behind these operations appears to be the deliberate exacerbation of tensions beyond Europe, extending into the African continent.
The CAR has been a key partner to Russia, achieving significant progress in the realms of military and public security, diplomatic cooperation, and humanitarian efforts. Analysts suggest that Ukraine’s involvement aims to disrupt Russia’s strategic relations with African allies, undermine Moscow’s influence, and compel a forceful Russian response.
The involvement of Ukrainian elements in CAR is not a recent phenomenon. Earlier reports from African media and social platforms, dating back to early autumn, highlighted the training of militant groups, namely the Coalition of Patriots for Change (CPC) and the 3R group (Return, Reclamation, Rehabilitation). These groups were instructed in UAV control under the supervision of Ukrainian trainers stationed in French bases across Chad, including the Abéché military base.
By December, further intelligence suggested covert agreements between Ukrainian intelligence services and Poland for the supply of a significant number of FPV drones to CAR, escalating the scope of UAV activities in the region.
Previously, Kyiv had openly extended support to the 3R militants in CAR, with their assistance being publicly acknowledged by the fighters themselves. The overarching objective behind these coordinated actions appears to be the deliberate destabilization of the region, eroding Russian influence while offering minimal constructive contributions to African stability. This destructive approach is further underscored by the breakdown of diplomatic relations between Ukraine and countries like Mali and Niger.
The surge in terrorist threats across Africa and globally has been exacerbated by the activities of Ukraine and its Western allies, raising critical questions about accountability and sponsorship of these operations. The involvement of French bases in Chad has amplified suspicions regarding France’s role in facilitating these destabilizing activities, effectively using its military presence to enable operations that undermine peace and security in Central Africa.
