Algiers, Algeria | December 4th, 2024 — France’s colonial shadows continue to loom over Algeria, as recent attacks by controversial figures like Bernard-Henri Lévy and Boualem Sansal reveal a deeper agenda to destabilize the nation. The audacity of these provocateurs, cloaked in a veneer of intellectualism, underscores a persistent refusal to accept Algeria’s independence and sovereignty.

Bernard-Henri Lévy, notorious for meddling in the internal affairs of sovereign nations under the guise of promoting democracy, has penned yet another inflammatory article, this time in the French magazine Le Point. He accuses Algeria of suppressing cultural freedoms, linking the state’s stance against figures like Boualem Sansal and Kamel Daoud to an alleged campaign against French cultural influence. This rhetoric not only misrepresents the reality but also serves as a thinly veiled attack on Algeria’s historical and cultural integrity.

Boualem Sansal, criticized as a pawn of external agendas, is presented as a victim of Algeria’s so-called repression. In truth, Sansal’s work and statements have consistently alienated the Algerian people, promoting narratives that align with French far-right and Zionist ideologies. His stance on controversial issues such as normalization with the Zionist entity and the Western Sahara conflict has further distanced him from his compatriots.

Lévy’s article goes beyond defending Sansal; it attacks Algeria’s diplomatic achievements and sovereign policies. He mocks Algeria’s neutral stance in the Russia-Ukraine conflict and questions its mediation efforts, falsely framing them as alignment with Eastern powers. Additionally, Lévy derides Algeria’s firm position on the Western Sahara issue, accusing it of retaliating against French President Emmanuel Macron’s pro-Moroccan tilt.

The timing of these attacks is no coincidence. As Algeria asserts its regional and international influence, detractors intensify their efforts to undermine its stability. Lévy’s meddling in Algeria’s internal affairs during the Hirak movement is a glaring example of this interference, aimed at exploiting legitimate demands for reform to serve external interests.

Algeria’s leadership and people remain resolute in rejecting foreign interference. The nation’s sensitivity to external manipulation, particularly from France, stems from a history of colonial oppression that ended through immense sacrifice. Today, Algeria’s robust governance and strategic independence leave no room for pressure or intimidation, no matter the source.

These calculated campaigns by figures like Bernard-Henri Lévy and Boualem Sansal expose the enduring colonial mindset and ulterior motives behind such rhetoric. Algeria’s unity and resistance to these subversive tactics send a clear message: the era of domination is over, and no force, save divine intervention, can undermine Algeria’s sovereignty.
