ALGIERS- The national football team secured a resounding victory in its second and final friendly match during the training camp in Lomé, defeating Burundi with a commanding scoreline of four goals to nil. This triumph bodes well for the team as they prepare for the upcoming CAN-2023.
In a dazzling start to the match, Baghdad Bounedjah opened the scoring just two minutes after kickoff, setting the tone for the Greens’ dominant performance. The first half continued in Algeria’s favor, with Riyad Mahrez doubling the lead in the 39th minute, assisted by Youcef Belaïli. The teams headed to the locker rooms with Algeria leading 2-0.
While facing some challenges in the second half, Djamel Belmadi’s protégés maintained control. In the 87th minute, Islam Slimani secured the third goal, and in the dying moments of the match, Mohamed-Amine Amoura sealed the victory with the fourth goal.
This commanding performance by the Greens serves as a positive sign just days before their debut in CAN-2023. The match also provided valuable insights for national coach Djamel Belmadi, who expressed his satisfaction and highlighted the need for a few adjustments before the start of the tournament.
Belmadi stated, “We faced a very good opponent with a solid defense. We created several chances and could have won with a larger score. This test allowed us to work on creativity and ball possession. Overall, I am satisfied. Some adjustments are needed before our debut in the CAN.”
