Arab Media Urged to Champion Unity and Truth: Algeria Calls for a Renewed Commitment to Professionalism and Sovereignty

Algiers, Algeria | April 27th, 2025 — In an address delivered this Sunday from Algiers, Algeria’s Minister of Communication, Mohamed Meziane, issued a clarion call to Arab media and communication outlets, urging them to assume a “pioneering role” by producing content that is “objective, trustworthy, innovative, and compelling” to foster greater Arab solidarity.

Speaking at the opening of the periodic meetings of Arab radio, television, and communications coordinators and engineers, Minister Meziane emphasized that Arab media must work diligently to “promote educational and purposeful content that respects the sovereignty of nations, safeguards cultural identities, and upholds economic achievements.” He insisted that such content must be firmly anchored in the ethics and principles of professional conduct, reject discord and division, and categorically denounce the falsification of facts.

Highlighting the grave challenges posed by “hostile media campaigns” targeting many Arab nations, Minister Meziane warned against the persistent attempts to distort political paths and undermine national stability. He called upon Arab media institutions to “deploy their tools and resources to confront these threats head-on, protect the sovereignty of our states, and defend the truth against misinformation and manipulations.”

He further stressed the necessity of “strengthening media cooperation among Arab states to ensure the accurate transmission of facts, highlight our collective efforts towards development, good governance, and democratic practices, and counter the narratives that aim to sow seeds of discord.”

Minister Meziane underlined the importance of these annual periodic meetings as critical platforms for “assessing past performance, addressing professional shortcomings, and proposing practical solutions to advance the effectiveness of coordinators across all media bodies.”

In his speech, the Minister extended his sincere appreciation to the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) for its tireless efforts in “fostering collaboration among Arab television and radio institutions and advancing the cause of Arab unity.” He reaffirmed that “the new and victorious Algeria, under the wise leadership of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, remains steadfastly committed to all genuine efforts that aim to reinforce the foundations of Arab joint action.”

Moreover, Minister Meziane renewed Algeria’s unwavering support for the Arab States Broadcasting Union and the Arab Center for News and Program Exchange, emphasizing Algeria’s “deep-seated belief in the mission of these institutions and its readiness to engage actively with all initiatives, particularly in the exchange of news and the production of programs and reports related to the Palestinian cause and other pressing Arab matters.”

For his part, Abdelrahim Suleiman, Director-General of the Arab States Broadcasting Union, lauded Algeria’s continuous efforts and commitment. He praised Algeria’s role in hosting the Arab Center for News and Program Exchange and its “unshakable nationalist stances and President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s devoted leadership in consolidating the foundations of Arab solidarity, integration, and progress.”

Suleiman also highlighted Algeria’s “immense attention and deep responsiveness” to the Union’s projects, technical endeavors, and programs, underscoring that Algeria’s support remains crucial for the advancement of the Arab media landscape and the realization of the aspirations of Arab nations for prosperity and unity.

Through this call, Algeria reaffirms its historic commitment to the Arab cause, urging media institutions to rise above fragmentation, amplify voices of truth, and build a future rooted in collective dignity, resilience, and hope.
