In a recent post on Facebook, Lakhdar Bellat, one of the key figures behind the company’s success, shared the origins of the business, shedding light on the determination and sacrifices that paved the way for its remarkable rise. According to Bellat, “In the 1970s, our journey in the meat industry began with my parents, who laid the foundations of success through perseverance and hard work.”
The pivotal moment came in 1973 when a large family business that supplied government institutions with food products requested that Bellat’s father provide them with specialized products like sausages and pâtés. Recognizing the opportunity, he decided to shift from distribution to manufacturing, setting the stage for the creation of Bellat Company.
The company’s growth continued in the 1980s, with Bellat’s cousin joining the business in 1982 as a partner, helping to manage operations until 1995 when he pursued other ventures. At that point, Lakhdar Bellat and his brother, Fergani, took over the reins, with their siblings Halim and Ismail (may he rest in peace) later joining them in the expansion efforts.
Innovation and quality have been the cornerstones of Bellat Company’s success. As Lakhdar Bellat explains, “We modernized our equipment with the latest technology from Germany and France, and participated in international trade shows to stay updated on industry developments. Investing in quality and innovation was key to ensuring the highest production standards.”
However, the company’s journey was not without challenges. Between 2015 and 2017, Bellat Company faced a significant financial extortion attempt that nearly derailed their operations. “We were nearly brought to our knees, but with faith in God, patience, and hard work, we overcame this crisis and continued to grow,” Lakhdar Bellat recalls. “We proved that crises are merely tests of true willpower.”
Today, Bellat Company stands proud of its achievements. The company employs over 1,400 direct workers, supporting thousands of Algerian families, and its products are distributed across the entire country through a reliable network. Lakhdar Bellat emphasizes, “Our commitment to future success is clear—we are grooming the next generation to continue the company’s growth and ensure its future sustainability.”
The company’s journey, however, is far from over. “We’ve built a strong and dedicated team of visionary individuals who are the backbone of our success. There were men who stood firm in the toughest moments, and determination and persistence have been the secrets of our continuity,” said Bellat. “The journey continues, thanks to God and the men who believed that success is not just a goal but a legacy we leave for future generations.”
