ALGIERS- The 7th summit of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) concluded its proceedings in Algiers, marking a significant milestone in shaping the trajectory of the global gas market. With high stakes and profound shifts in the international energy landscape, the summit successfully delivered on its promises by uniting gas-producing nations around common interests and outlining a strategic vision for ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all.
Algeria leveraged favorable organizational conditions, recognized diplomatic weight, and a growing role in the global energy market to orchestrate the success of the summit. With a firm commitment to defending the interests of both producers and consumers, Algeria facilitated constructive dialogue among key players in the international gas market. President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid of Iraq commended Algeria’s role in stabilizing global energy markets and bridging the positions of producing countries, underscoring Algeria’s pioneering efforts in this regard.
As a reliable gas supplier increasingly indispensable to its traditional partners in Western Europe, Algeria solidified its position on the international energy stage. The Algiers summit served as a pivotal point for aligning positions towards common goals of global energy security and equity.
President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized the significance of the Algiers Declaration in addressing current and future challenges, demonstrating a collective determination to expand the use of gas responsibly in a rapidly changing world. The declaration reaffirms the sovereign rights of member countries over their natural gas resources while promoting sustainable development beneficial to both producers and consumers.
The summit successfully paved the way for robust and meaningful dialogue among producers, consumers, and other stakeholders to ensure the security of demand and supplies, foster market stability, and guarantee transparency without hindrance or discrimination, as articulated in the final declaration. Through these efforts, the GECF 7th Summit in Algiers achieved its objectives, charting a course towards a more secure and equitable global gas market.
