ALGIERS- Continuing his working and inspection visit to the second military region in Oran, General of the Army Saïd Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the ANP, conducted an evening inspection at the central naval base of Mers El-Kébir.

According to a statement from the Ministry of National Defense (MDN) cited by national television, General Chanegriha was received on-site by Major General Mahfoud Benmeddah, commander of the naval forces of the ANP.

“The Army General received detailed explanations regarding the progress of ongoing projects before starting an inspection visit to the shipbuilding chain and the projects currently underway, in addition to marine units and ships from national economic enterprises under repair at the shipyard,” the statement added.

Subsequently, the Chief of Staff inaugurated and commissioned the first tugboat produced by ECRN (the Naval Construction and Repair Establishment).

“The Army General inspected the equipment assigned to our naval forces as part of the modernization program for our marine fleet,” the same source emphasized.

The unveiling of the locally constructed tugboat marks a significant milestone in Algeria’s naval capabilities, showcasing the country’s commitment to enhancing its maritime infrastructure and self-reliance in naval construction.
