General Saïd Chanegriha Hosts AFRICOM Commander

Algiers, Algeria | January 22nd, 2025 — The Chief of Staff of the Algerian People’s National Army (ANP) and Deputy Minister of Defense, General Saïd Chanegriha, hosted a high-profile meeting on Wednesday with General Michael Langley, Commander of the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), at the headquarters of the ANP in Algiers. This engagement underscores the deepening partnership between Algeria and the United States in the realms of defense and security.

General Chanegriha welcomed General Langley and his delegation, extending warm congratulations to the American people on the inauguration of the 47th President of the United States, Donald Trump, while expressing Algeria’s aspirations to strengthen bilateral ties across various sectors, including defense and security.

In his remarks, General Chanegriha highlighted the importance of fostering global peace and security, noting the historical depth of Algerian-American relations. He emphasized the ongoing positive trajectory of military collaboration between the two nations, which he described as grounded in rationality, pragmatism, and constructive dialogue.

“The partnership between Algeria and the United States reflects our shared commitment to achieving mutual interests. We are pleased with the progress made in our cooperation, particularly in defense and security, and are determined to elevate this partnership to new heights,” stated General Chanegriha. He also expressed Algeria’s solidarity with the United States following recent wildfires in California, extending wishes for a swift recovery to the affected individuals.

General Langley, in turn, expressed gratitude for Algeria’s warm reception and affirmed his country’s commitment to furthering military cooperation. He commended the multidimensional coordination between the two nations and lauded Algeria’s pivotal role in promoting security and stability in the region.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a memorandum of understanding, formalizing cooperation between Algeria’s Ministry of National Defense and the U.S. Department of Defense.
