General Union of Algerian Workers Calls for Massive Voter Participation

Algiers, Algeria | September 3rd, 2024 — On Tuesday, the General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) issued a strong call for workers across various sectors to participate actively in the presidential election scheduled for September 7.

In a statement, the UGTA emphasized the critical importance of this national event, urging all Algerian citizens, particularly those in essential sectors, to engage fully in the electoral process. “It is necessary to issue a solemn call to all Algerian citizens, especially workers in vital sectors, to participate massively and actively in this extremely important national milestone,” the UGTA’s communiqué stated.

Every Vote Matters

The UGTA described the election as a pivotal opportunity to advance the roadmap aimed at strengthening state institutions, ensuring social protection, and safeguarding purchasing power. “As workers, unionists, and citizens, we must rise to this responsibility and contribute seriously and actively to this process,” the union asserted. The UGTA highlighted that “every vote counts in this election,” and stressed that the high participation of all societal categories, including unionists and workers, is crucial for continuing the strategy of positive change that the country is experiencing.

Selecting a Highly Competent Candidate

The union characterized the presidential election as a “historical moment” to build upon recent qualitative transformations in the country at social, economic, and international levels. It also represents “an opportunity to enhance the country’s ability to face various challenges.” The UGTA underscored the importance of choosing a highly competent candidate who is committed to supporting economic projects and strengthening achievements that will contribute to job creation and the improvement of living conditions for all societal segments.

The UGTA described the September 7 election as a “crucial stage in Algeria’s history” and an opportunity for workers and unionists to affirm their vital role in achieving the desired objectives. The union concluded that its commitment to participating in the election is a “national duty necessary for preserving gains and building a strong and prosperous Algeria.”
