ALGIERS-  The General Union of Algerian Workers (UGTA) welcomed, in a press release, the content of the letter addressed by the President of the Republic Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Algerian workers on the occasion of the commemoration of Workers’ Day.

“The UGTA has read with great attention the content of the letter addressed by the President of the Republic to Algerian workers on the occasion of Workers’ Day, May 1, and can only proudly note the importance given to the world of work by the highest authorities of the country,” read the communiqué.

The press release also noted with satisfaction the decision to increase, annually, retirement pensions on May 1, which constitutes proof of the interest shown by the public authorities, headed by the President of the Republic, in a large fringe of our society.

“This decision comes on top of a series of others that were taken in a very short period of time, not reaching two years, like the exemption from taxes for low incomes (less than 30,000 DA), the revision of the index point, the introduction of the unemployment allowance, as well as the revaluation of retirement pensions, which are part of the improvement of the purchasing power of citizens contained in the 54 commitments of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune”, added the same statement.

These measures, as further noted in the communiqué, are added to the series of sovereign measures taken despite the unfavorable conditions induced by the economic and health situations, which resulted in a historic drop in oil prices and an unprecedented economic slowdown.

Finally, the trade union did not fail to recall the efforts and will of the Algerian workers in the accomplishment of their tasks in order to relaunch the national economy.
