ALGIERS– The Cement and Derivatives Company of Ech-Chéliff (ECDE), a subsidiary of the Algerian Cement Industrial Group (GICA), has obtained the certificate of conformity to European standards for the cement it produces, which will facilitate its access to external markets, said a press release from the Ministry of Industry on Tuesday.

The certificate of conformity concerns four types of cement, including three Portland limestone cements, namely; GICA BETON (42.5 N), GICA BENIAN (32.5 N) and GICA INDJAZAT (52.5 N), and a fourth type of Portland cement resulting from grinding of clinker and calcium sulphate, namely GICA MOUDHAD (42.5 N/SR5), the statement added.

Certificates of conformity to European standards are issued by the French Association for Standardization (AFNOR), according to the same source.

In July 2022, the Aïn Kebira cement plant in the wilaya of Sétif (subsidiary of GICA) obtained a certificate of conformity to European standards for three types of cement. The subsidiary had previously (July 2019) obtained the American Petroleum Institute (API) certificate of compliance with standards for the production of petroleum cement used in the hydrocarbon sector.

These certificates facilitate the access of GICA products to external markets, particularly European ones, as part of the group’s export strategy aimed at strengthening its international presence, the statement said.
