Algiers, Algeria | September 12th, 2024 —  As President Abdelmadjid Tebboune celebrates his re-election for a second mandate, a wave of congratulations from international leaders continues to pour in, reflecting global recognition of his leadership and Algeria’s growing role on the world stage. Thursday witnessed an influx of warm messages from presidents and prime ministers, each underscoring their optimism for a prosperous future for Algeria and their eagerness to elevate bilateral relations.

In a message that underscored the deep-rooted historical ties between Algeria and China, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the “friendly relations” between the two nations, which have flourished under the joint leadership of both countries’ heads of state. Xi expressed his “keen interest” in working alongside President Tebboune, capitalizing on the upcoming 10th anniversary of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Algeria and China to “expand and deepen cooperation,” envisioning even broader horizons for collaboration.

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also extended his heartfelt congratulations, celebrating Tebboune’s re-election as a testament to the trust Algerians have placed in him. Pezeshkian highlighted Tebboune’s “comprehensive development programs,” which are poised to drive Algeria toward further growth and prosperity. He expressed a strong desire to see the two nations’ bilateral relations develop further and offered his best wishes for Tebboune’s continued success in fulfilling the responsibilities entrusted to him by the Algerian people.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi echoed similar sentiments during a personal phone call to Tebboune, extending his congratulations and expressing confidence in the Algerian president’s ability to navigate the challenges ahead. The two leaders also took the opportunity to exchange views on ways to further strengthen their countries’ bilateral relations, with a commitment to meet in the near future to explore new avenues of cooperation.

Iraqi President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid was equally effusive in his praise, lauding the “brotherly relations” between Iraq and Algeria, while offering his wishes for Tebboune’s continued success over the next five years. The Iraqi leader emphasized the importance of sustained collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

From the Republic of Korea, President Yoon Suk-yeol sent his “warm congratulations” on behalf of himself and the South Korean people, extending his hopes for “further prosperity” in Algeria under Tebboune’s “enlightened leadership.” He also expressed a commitment to enhancing cooperation between Algiers and Seoul, with the goal of transforming the existing relationship into a strategic partnership.

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko also joined the chorus of global leaders offering their congratulations, describing Tebboune’s re-election as “popular recognition” of his exceptional efforts to drive Algeria’s development. Lukashenko expressed his readiness to expand cooperation with Algeria across multiple sectors, signaling a willingness to strengthen ties between the two nations.

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan was similarly effusive, characterizing Tebboune’s electoral victory as a “reflection of the immense trust placed in him by the Algerian people.” Aliyev reaffirmed his commitment to deepening bilateral relations, noting that there is significant potential for cooperation between their two countries in a variety of fields.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić sent his personal congratulations on behalf of both himself and the Serbian people, emphasizing the “deep historical ties” between Algeria and Serbia, particularly in the context of their shared role in founding the Non-Aligned Movement. Vučić expressed his confidence that bilateral cooperation between the two nations would continue to grow and evolve in the best interests of both peoples.

Djibouti’s President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh affirmed his “full commitment” to fostering stronger relations with Algeria, expressing hope that Tebboune’s renewed mandate would bring “greater prosperity” to the country. The renewed trust in Tebboune’s leadership, Guelleh noted, is a testament to the significant progress Algeria has made under his stewardship.

Angolan President João Lourenço echoed these sentiments, praising Tebboune’s leadership in “overcoming challenges” and “reinforcing Algeria’s economic gains” during his first term. Lourenço stressed the importance of continuing to work towards the “consolidation of the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation” that exist between Angola and Algeria.

In a particularly meaningful message, Abdourahamane Tiani, the President of Niger’s National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, commended Tebboune’s re-election as “a recognition of the major achievements he realized during his first term.” Tiani praised the “strong bilateral relations” between Algeria and Niger, which have paved the way for major joint projects that are of great importance to both nations.

Japan’s Prime Minister, Kishida Fumio, sent his congratulations from Tokyo, lauding President Tebboune’s efforts in promoting peace and security in the Middle East, particularly in Gaza, as well as across Africa and the Sahel region. Fumio expressed a strong desire to continue working hand-in-hand with Tebboune to bolster cooperation between Japan and Algeria in all areas.

In addition to these messages, President Tebboune received numerous congratulatory calls and messages earlier in the week, including from King Abdullah II of Jordan, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, and Russian President Vladimir Putin. Each leader expressed their heartfelt congratulations, reaffirming their respect for Algeria’s growing influence under Tebboune’s leadership and their desire to enhance diplomatic and economic ties moving forward.

As the congratulatory messages continue to flood in, it is clear that President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s re-election is not just a domestic victory, but an acknowledgment of Algeria’s prominent role on the global stage, with leaders from across the world eager to build stronger partnerships with a nation on the rise.
