Algiers, Algeria | November 13th, 2024 — Salah Goudjil, Speaker of the Council of the Nation, hosted a delegation on Wednesday comprising prominent members of the National Secretariat of the National Organization of Mujahideen (ONM) and representatives from the Forum for Supporting and Promoting Rural Women. This visit, held in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the November 1st Revolution, underscored Algeria’s enduring commitment to honoring its revolutionary legacy.

A Tribute to Women’s Contributions

The delegation included freedom fighters Saliha Djeffal and Ferria Garmia, as well as Dalila Bendjoudi, president of the Forum for Supporting and Promoting Rural Women, accompanied by other forum members. Their visit, described as a gesture of courtesy, celebrated the historic sacrifices and ongoing contributions of women, particularly those in rural areas, to Algeria’s liberation and development.

Preserving National Memory

In his remarks, Goudjil highlighted the relentless efforts of President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to safeguard and elevate Algeria’s national memory. He lauded the strides made in preserving the revolutionary heritage and ensuring its rightful place in the collective consciousness.

The speaker of the Council of the Nation emphasized the critical role women played during the War of Liberation, acknowledging their sacrifices alongside their male counterparts. “The rural woman was not only a pillar during the Revolution but remains an integral force in the victorious Algeria of today,” Goudjil noted, recognizing their contributions to nation-building and socio-economic development.

Women’s Role in Modern Algeria

Goudjil’s statements reinforced the importance of women, particularly those from rural areas, in shaping Algeria’s future. Their involvement in the liberation struggle serves as an enduring source of inspiration, as their commitment continues to manifest in today’s efforts to strengthen the nation’s foundations.
