Government meeting discusses projects on creation of national seed bank, genetic resources bank

ALGIERS- The Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, chaired, on Wednesday, a Government meeting devoted to a range of presentations on the sectors of Justice, Higher Education, Youth and Sports, Agriculture and Crafts, said a press release from the Prime Minister’s office.
“The Prime Minister, Mr. Aïmene Benabderrahmane, chaired, this Wednesday, April 12, 2023, a government meeting held at the Government Palace,” read the communiqué.
In this vein, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development gave a presentation on the national seed bank as well as the state of progress of the project to create the bank of genetic resources.
It should be recalled that the creation of these two banks represents an important tool for the sustainable development of agriculture as well as the strengthening of food security and the national sovereignty of our country.
These two projects aim to preserve the national genetic heritage, create and improve varieties adapted to changes in the food consumption model and climate change, while ensuring the conservation and use of genetic resources for the future.
